Set up or repair
your Shopify tracking.
Shopify knows every order. GA4 and Google Ads only see what your measurement path actually transmits. FW Delta reviews native apps, customer events, custom pixels, GTM, consent and conversion actions, and builds a tested Shopify tracking system from them.

Web Tracking & Conversion SetupFrom real Shopify setups
Typical Shopify tracking problems
Four routes, one decision
Google & YouTube app, customer events, custom pixel or GTM?
Google & YouTube app
For standard cases, the product feed, Merchant Center and the supported Google connections.
Shopify customer events
For the standardised Shopify event system, including the privacy API and the consent listener.
Custom pixel
For bespoke JavaScript logic, event normalisation and your own GTM data layer. Shopify explicitly describes this route as an advanced, self-managed implementation with its own QA and limited support.
GTM
For central tags, triggers, variables, your own conversion actions and versioning.
Server-side
A later stage once the browser and consent logic are validated, not the entry point.
The Google & YouTube app can provide Merchant Center and tracking at the same time. Both connections are assessed separately. An app is not uninstalled blindly when the product feed depends on it.

Customer Privacy and Consent Mode must know the same thing.
- read the Shopify Customer Privacy API instead of assuming
- analyticsProcessingAllowed
- marketingAllowed
- visitorConsentCollected
- assess basic and advanced mode separately
- test partial consent
- no retroactive replay in basic mode
- a separate CMP on the WordPress site where one exists
- optional later unification of consent
When a custom pixel is chosen
What gets verified on the custom pixel
- subscriber registration before any async work
- a real page_location instead of the sandbox URL
- a real referrer
- consent updates during the session
- the behaviour of the event queue
- no replay before consent
- a top-frame cookie strategy where needed
- session timeout
- reload protection on the order confirmation
- a real transaction ID instead of a static value
- personal data only in the intended Ads path
- Shopify Pixel Helper
- network requests
- GA4 Realtime and DebugView
- activity in the Google Ads account
- documented sandbox limits
The sandbox can prevent the usual Tag Assistant connection. We therefore verify through Shopify Pixel Helper, network validation and the Google reporting surfaces.
From a real project
Only around half of the shop purchases reached Analytics before the repair.
A main site and a shop ran on separate platforms through separate measurement paths. We built a shared versioned container across both systems, the full purchase funnel, a direct purchase conversion in the ad account with a dynamic value and a unique transaction ID, Consent Mode v2, domain and session continuity, deduplication and a test purchase across the entire order process.
Deduplication was verified through repeated calls of the completion process. Shop integrations not affected by the tracking work, including the product feed, remained unchanged during the cutover.
Anonymised project case. No guarantee is given that the shop system, Analytics and the advertising platforms will match exactly.

Frequently asked Shopify questions
Does the Google & YouTube channel have to be removed?
Not automatically. Merchant Center, the product feed, and the Ads and Analytics connections are assessed separately. An app the product feed depends on does not get uninstalled just to remove a measurement path.
Can GTM run inside a Shopify custom pixel?
Shopify provides an advanced route for this through a custom pixel. The code runs in a sandbox and requires deliberate testing and its own maintenance. Shopify explicitly notes that the implementation is self-managed and support is limited.
Why does Tag Assistant not work as usual?
The sandbox can prevent the usual Tag Assistant debug connection. We verify through Shopify Pixel Helper, network validation, GA4 Realtime and DebugView, and activity in the Google Ads account instead.
Can purchase be captured without a thank-you page?
A purely browser-side path via checkout_completed still depends on the relevant page or event actually executing. Where coverage is business-critical, server-side or app-based options can be assessed later.
Can WordPress and Shopify share a session?
Continuity can be improved considerably through domain, linker, cookie and identity strategies. The exact implementation depends on root domains, subdomains and sandbox behaviour. A hundred percent handover is not promised.
Are duplicate purchases prevented?
Yes. Through unique transaction IDs, cleanup of parallel paths, reload protection on the order confirmation and a controlled cutover.
Do you run a real test purchase?
Yes. We verify value, currency, discount, multiple coupons, tax, shipping, items, quantities, the transaction ID, the Google Ads request and enhanced conversions. The test purchase is cancelled or refunded once agreed.
What happens with Checkout Extensibility?
We review the current checkout and order status version, legacy scripts and any remaining checkout.liquid dependencies, then migrate measurement to customer events. Testing happens on the version that is actually live in the shop.
